Zelenogradsk, whose webcams can be viewed online on this site, has managed to carry a unique architectural heritage through the years.
These are old German buildings, places of worship. One of them is St. Adalbert's Church. It rises above the streets near the Zelenogradsky promenade with Queen Louise Square, which are among the most visited sights of the city.
The building is made in the Gothic style of red stone. The author of the project was the architect Launir, who worked here in the 19th century. The highlight of the building is the tower, the height of which reaches more than 42 meters.
After East Prussia became part of the USSR, the Lutheran church was closed. And after the collapse of the Union, it was transferred to the fund of the Russian Orthodox Church. Later, the object became the Orthodox Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral. Today it is active, surprisingly combining the tradition of two faiths. To this day, the old wooden finishes and benches for parishioners have been preserved here.
Another Orthodox church in Zelenogradsk, which has an atypical appearance, is named after St. Andrew the First-Called. This red-brick building with a green roof was once a Catholic chapel, made in the best traditions of neo-Gothic religious architecture. The temple was built at the beginning of the 20th century and today is included in the list of cultural heritage sites.
After the transfer of the chapel to the Russian Orthodox Church, it was slightly rebuilt, in accordance with the Orthodox canons. Today the temple is active. Many shrines are kept here, including a particle of the relics of the apostle. Around the temple there is a cozy square with a playground.
You can learn more about the history of the city by visiting the Zelenograd City Museum of Local Lore.
Its funds are stored in the ancient building of Villa Crell, which was built over 100 years ago in the Gothic style.
The museum's collection includes artifacts that tell about the various pages of the history of these lands, starting from the most ancient times. Along with the exposition, interactive classes are held within the walls of the museum. The museum also conducts excursions along the streets and other objects of the city. In addition to the main exhibition, there is an art space on the ground floor of the building, where interesting cultural events and master classes take place. There you can also buy handicrafts, including souvenirs and jewelry made from Baltic amber.
If there is no way to go to these places yet, Zelenogradsk webcams will allow you to overcome any borders and make an exciting virtual journey.
