Mogilev - more than 700-year old city. According to the chronicle of Mogilev, Mogilev Palace was built in 1267. There are several legends explaining the origin of the name "Mogilev". One of them is associated with the Duke Lev Danilovich Mohiam, whose grave was later covered hill, nicknamed the Mogilyov (or the grave of a Lion).
In the course of its history the city was repeatedly attacked and besieged, even burned to the ground (and time). The invaders destroyed and plundered it. The city remembers the heroic defense in 1941 and the brave struggle of the participants of the underground organization during the great Patriotic war. Soviet power was established in Mogilev in November 1917. Mogilev was a center of the region since 1938. In June 1944 the city was liberated from the German invaders. The reconstruction of the economy after the war required the intense efforts of the total population of the city. The peoples of the former USSR and the Russian Federation assisted the Mogilyov. Its appearance is now defined architectural monuments of the 18th - beginning of 20th centuries and modern building complexes and ensembles.
